Mumbai Metro Line-3 Train Evacuated After Technical Snag At Santacruz

October 4, 2025: A Mumbai Metro Line-3 train heading towards Acharya Atre Chowk developed a technical snag near Santacruz station at approximately 2:44 pm on Friday, prompting a precautionary evacuation of passengers.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) confirmed the incident in an official statement, though it did not specify the exact nature of the problem. Some passengers reported seeing smoke on the train, but an MMRCL spokesperson denied that there was any fire or smoke.

As a safety measure, the affected train was evacuated at Santacruz station. It was subsequently moved to the Bandra-Kurla Complex loop line for a comprehensive technical inspection. Authorities emphasised that the incident was contained and no injuries were reported.

The specific service on which the snag occurred was cancelled for the remainder of the day. However, all other trains on Line-3 continued to operate on schedule, with minimal disruption to commuters.

MMRCL has assured passengers that safety protocols were strictly followed and that the inspection will determine the cause of the malfunction before the train returns to service. Officials added that Line-3’s fully underground corridor is equipped with multiple safety mechanisms, ensuring rapid response in the event of any technical issues.

This incident comes amid growing ridership on the newly operational Mumbai Metro Line-3, the city’s first completely underground metro corridor. Line-3 connects key business districts and transport hubs, providing much-needed east–west and north–south connectivity while reducing congestion on existing suburban rail lines.

Passengers are advised to remain updated through official MMRCL communication channels regarding service timings and any operational changes following the technical inspection.
