October 4, 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has moved to expedite two of Mumbai’s most ambitious infrastructure projects—the Goregaon–Mulund Link Road and the Mumbai Coastal Road (North)—following directives from Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani. The announcement came after Gagrani conducted a detailed on-site review of both projects on Friday.
During the inspection, Gagrani stressed the need to fast-track the Goregaon–Mulund Link Road while also streamlining the approval process for the Coastal Road (North) section, stretching from Versova to Bhayandar. He instructed civic officials to prioritise land acquisition required for road alignment and ensure that all permissions and No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) are secured without delay.
Gagrani reviewed Stage 3(B) of the Goregaon–Mulund project, which includes the construction of a triple-tube cut-and-cover tunnel at Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari in Goregaon, along with twin tunnels near Borivali, adjacent to Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Stage 3 spans 6.65 km, with the twin tunnels—each 4.7 km long and 45.7 metres wide—designed to run underground at depths ranging from 20 to 160 metres. They will feature modern facilities such as advanced lighting, ventilation, CCTV monitoring, fire safety systems, and stormwater drainage.
A Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) imported from Japan has already been deployed at the Goregaon site, with another expected by December 2025. Shaft excavation has commenced, with 3.5 metres completed so far.
Later in the day, Gagrani visited the Coastal Road (North) project site at Charkop, inspecting progress under Packages B, C, D, and E. He assessed key locations along the Versova–Bhayandar corridor, paying special attention to land availability for casting yards, access roads, and construction activity.
Senior civic engineers and consultants accompanied the inspection. Officials said these directives aim to ensure timely delivery of projects that promise to decongest traffic, improve connectivity, and enhance commuter convenience across Mumbai’s western and northern suburbs.
