PM Modi Launches Final Phase Of Aqua Line-3, Cutting Travel Time Across South Mumbai

October 08, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the final phase of Mumbai Metro Line-3 (Aqua Line), marking a major milestone in enhancing the city’s public transport network. Constructed at a cost of over Rs 12,200 crore for Phase 2B, and with the total project exceeding Rs 37,270 crore, the fully underground metro promises faster, modern, and efficient commuting for Mumbaikars.

“This metro will transform commuting in South Mumbai, linking business, cultural, and residential hubs while reducing travel time significantly,” an MMRC official said. Phase 2B connects Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade, covering key centres like the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Bombay High Court, Mantralaya, and Nariman Point. The line also provides seamless access to heritage and cultural districts, including Fort, Kala Ghoda, and Marine Drive.

The final stretch introduces 11 new stations—Science Museum, Mahalaxmi, Mumbai Central, Grant Road, Girgaon, Kalbadevi, CSMT Metro, Hutatma Chowk, Churchgate, Vidhan Bhavan, and Cuffe Parade—integrating with existing transport networks like suburban railways, Metro Line-1, and both Domestic (T1) and International (T2) airports.

Phase 2B will cut travel time from Cuffe Parade to Aarey JVLR to under one hour, with trains running every five minutes from 5:55 AM to 10:30 PM. Fares range from Rs 10 to Rs 70, making it affordable for daily commuters.

Spanning 33.5 km with 27 stations, 26 of which are underground, the Mumbai Metro Line-3 is expected to serve around 13 lakh passengers daily. It links seamlessly with other metro lines, monorail, suburban trains, bus services, and airports, offering enhanced last-mile connectivity and helping decongest the city’s busy roads.

Mumbai Metro Line-3 stands as the city’s first fully underground metro, transforming urban mobility and redefining commuting standards across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
