October 10, 2025: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has launched ‘Mumbai One’, a first-of-its-kind common mobility app designed to unify public transport across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The app integrates 11 public transport operators, enabling commuters to book and travel seamlessly across Metro lines, Monorail, Suburban Railways, and multiple bus services through a single QR-based digital ticket.
The app eliminates the need for multiple applications, paper tickets, and separate bookings, offering an eco-friendly and cashless travel experience. With a tri-lingual interface in Hindi, Marathi, and English, it also includes safety features like “Share My Location” and an Emergency Helpline. Its multimodal journey planner helps users choose the fastest and most affordable routes, while offering real-time updates on service availability and advisories.
‘Mumbai One’ supports digital wallet payments and prepaid balances, aligning with the Digital India initiative. Beyond daily commuting, the app acts as a city guide for domestic and international tourists, showcasing key attractions, dining options, and cultural landmarks—furthering the “Mumbai in Minutes” vision.
The app consolidates services from Mumbai Suburban Railway, Metro Lines 1, 2A, 3, and 7, Navi Mumbai Metro, Monorail, BEST, Thane, Mira-Bhayander, Kalyan-Dombivli, and Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport. Fully funded by MMRDA, it comes at no extra cost to users.
Built on a MeitY-compliant cloud using Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes, the system ensures scalability and PCI DSS-compliant security. Initially, it can manage up to 150,000 daily transactions, with the ability to scale to 5 million users and 5 million transactions per day.
‘Mumbai One’ represents a transformative leap in urban mobility, promising to make Mumbai’s public transport more efficient, accessible, and sustainable, while setting a new benchmark for integrated transit systems in India.
