Mumbai To Ujjain In 10 Hours: Ujjain-Jaora Greenfield Expressway To Boost Connectivity

October 15, 2025: The Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) has awarded a Rs 2,080-crore contract to LLC Volgdorstroy Company for the construction of the 102-kilometre Ujjain-Jaora Greenfield Expressway. The project, originally planned as a controlled-access highway, will now be built as a modern four-lane Greenfield expressway, with a completion timeline of two years. According to the agreement, 40% of the project cost will be funded by the state government, while the contractor will bear the remaining 60%.

Once operational, the expressway will reduce travel time between Ujjain and Mumbai or Delhi to just 10 hours, enhancing connectivity and promoting regional economic development. The highway will also link to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Bhutheda village, close to Jaora, integrating the route with India’s broader high-speed highway network.

The expressway’s design includes seven large bridges, 26 small bridges, 270 culverts, five flyovers, and two railway overbridges, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow. Traversing 51 villages across Ujjain, Jaora, Nagda, Khachrod, and Unhel tehsils, it will connect 12 villages in Jaora alone.

Earlier, the project faced opposition in urban areas, with protests by a struggle committee lasting three months. However, the MPRDC has reissued tenders to advance construction ahead of Simhastha 2028, when the highway is expected to be operational.

This strategic infrastructure initiative is aimed at reducing congestion on existing roads, providing a safer, faster route for commuters, and supporting industrial and commercial growth along the corridor. By linking Ujjain to major urban centres, the expressway is set to become a key transport artery for Madhya Pradesh, offering seamless connectivity to Mumbai, Delhi, and the national highway network.

MPRDC officials confirmed that work will proceed promptly to meet the targeted completion date, marking a significant step in the state’s infrastructure development plans.
