BMC To Begin Construction Of Rs 418 Crore Cable-Stayed Bridge Linking Goregaon And Oshiwara In November

October 24, 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to begin construction of a new cable-stayed bridge linking Goregaon and Oshiwara across the Goregaon Creek in November. The project, estimated at Rs 418 crore, is expected to be completed by October 2028.

The bridge aims to ease traffic congestion along S V Road and Link Road in the western suburbs by providing a new north-south corridor parallel to existing routes. Stretching 542 metres along the 36.6-metre-wide DP Road, the bridge will connect Bhagat Singh Nagar in Goregaon (P/South ward) to Oshiwara in Andheri (K/West ward) and serve as a new approach road for Bhagat Singh Nagar. The bridge will benefit commuters traveling between Andheri, Oshiwara, Lokhandwala, and Goregaon.

The project, initially proposed in 2022, faced delays due to pending approvals from agencies such as the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA), as the bridge passes over a protected mangrove area. Approval was granted by the High Court in May 2025, allowing construction to proceed.

The bridge’s cable-stayed portion will cover 238 metres. BMC officials noted that this design reduces the number of piers, limiting impact on mangroves, avoiding obstruction to the natural watercourse, and adding an aesthetic element to the locality. At 28.55 metres wide, the structure will have six lanes, with three carriageways on each side, a 0.45-metre median, and a 1.5-metre utility corridor alongside each carriageway.

“The cable-stayed design of the bridge, besides being better for the environment and waterway, will reduce the timeline of the construction period compared to a conventional bridge. Upon commissioning, the bridge will facilitate smoother North-South vehicular movement and significantly reduce the load on S V Road and Link Road. Eventually, it will also connect the Link Road to the proposed Mumbai Coastal Road (North),” said Abhijit Bangar, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects).

Construction is expected to take 36 months, excluding monsoon months, with work commencing in the first week of November 2025.
