November 06, 2025: In a landmark move to bridge the digital divide, the Maharashtra Government has announced a formal partnership with Elon Musk’s Starlink Satellite Communications Pvt Ltd to provide satellite-based internet services across the state. With this initiative, Maharashtra becomes the first Indian state to collaborate with the U.S.-based satellite communications company, PTI reported.
A Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed between the state government and Starlink, marking a major milestone in the Digital Maharashtra mission. The collaboration aims to expand high-speed satellite internet connectivity to remote and underserved districts, including Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Washim, and Dharashiv, enhancing digital access for government institutions, rural communities, and key public infrastructure.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the agreement as a transformative step for the state’s digital future. “It is our honour that Starlink is coming to India and partnering with Maharashtra,” Fadnavis wrote on X, calling it a “giant leap towards a future-ready Maharashtra.” He said the partnership aligns with the state’s initiatives in electric mobility, coastal development, and disaster resilience, and will help set a new benchmark for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India mission.
In a separate meeting of the Infrastructure War Room held in Mumbai, Fadnavis directed officials and contractors to complete major infrastructure projects within three years, including the Mumbai Metro, BDD Chawl redevelopment, and housing projects. “In today’s age of technology, no projects should take five to six years. All projects must be completed within 2.5–3 years,” he said.
The CM also urged continuous monitoring of development works, emphasizing that timely completion is key to delivering better facilities and services to citizens across Maharashtra.
