November 11, 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a post-monsoon initiative to repair and upgrade footpaths across high-footfall areas in Dadar’s G North ward. The civic body aims to restore pedestrian safety and improve walking conditions along key arterial roads that suffered significant damage during the monsoon.
The improvement work will cover three major stretches — NC Kelkar Road, which houses Plaza Cinema, Star Mall, and Dadar Market junction near Nakshatra Mall; Bhavani Shankar Road, beginning from Kabutarkhana circle; and Gokhale Road, which has the new Dadar Metro station on the Aqua Line.
An official from the G North ward said, “The improvement plans were taken up to address a few immediate concerns regarding the condition of the footpaths, especially now that the monsoon season is over.”
Four major locations were severely damaged due to tree collapses. “Outside Rejoice restaurant on Gokhale Road, a fallen tree caused deep water damage, caving in the footpath. Similarly, the pavement outside the Vishwa building nearby was also damaged,” the official added. Other sections were found with cracked surfaces and loose tiles from prolonged water seepage.
Since footpath repairs are not included under the defect liability clause with road contractors, BMC has identified them as priority post-monsoon works. Temporary patchwork has been carried out to reduce hazards, while permanent repairs will use stronger concrete mixes. “Full-scale repairs will use M25 or M40 grade concrete for durability, given the area’s heavy foot traffic,” the official said.
The civic body expects the renewed pavements to enhance pedestrian movement and prevent recurring monsoon-related damage in one of Mumbai’s busiest neighbourhoods.
