A severe traffic jam along the Western Express Highway between Santacruz and Bandra during peak hours has once again spotlighted Mumbai’s growing congestion woes. The issue gained traction after a viral post on X showed long queues of vehicles stuck bumper to bumper, accompanied by a Google Maps image indicating heavy delays across the stretch.
The visuals quickly drew widespread attention, with many commuters sharing similar experiences of daily traffic bottlenecks on this crucial corridor, particularly near the Bandra Kurla Complex and surrounding areas.
Responding to the complaint, the Mumbai Traffic Police acknowledged the situation and confirmed that the concerned units had been alerted. “Thanks for bringing this to our notice. BKC, Sahar, Vakola Traffic Division has been informed about this,” the official handle replied.
Despite the assurance, many commuters expressed frustration, noting that such traffic snarls are no longer occasional but a daily occurrence. Several users took to social media to vent their dissatisfaction, pointing to issues such as rising vehicle numbers, possible VIP movement disruptions, and what they described as inadequate coordination among authorities.
One user remarked that these conditions have become routine, while another described the situation as “utterly useless”, highlighting how increasing traffic volumes have made roads increasingly unmanageable. A third comment sarcastically noted that while large infrastructure projects are progressing elsewhere, everyday traffic concerns within the city remain unresolved.
The incident has once again underlined the strain on Mumbai’s road network, particularly along key routes like the Western Express Highway. With vehicle density continuing to rise and congestion worsening, commuters are calling for long-term, sustainable solutions to address the city’s persistent urban mobility challenges.
