The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a series of development and administrative proposals, including a Rs 64 lakh Climate Action Plan, during its General Body meeting held at the Adya Krantiveer Vasudev Balwant Phadke Auditorium.

The meeting was chaired by Mayor Nitin Patil and attended by Deputy Mayor Pramila Patil, Additional Commissioner Ganesh Shete, Municipal Secretary Nanasaheb Kamthe, Deputy Secretary Akshay Kadam, elected representatives and civic officials.

Among the key decisions was the approval of ward committees under Section 29(A) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act. The civic body also sanctioned the appointment of a third-party agency to prepare a comprehensive Climate Action Plan for the city at a cost of Rs 64 lakh, including GST. Members suggested that a detailed presentation on the plan be conducted before implementation.

The House approved the renovation of a public garden at Sector 12, Kharghar, and cleared the formation of a Tree Authority Committee. A proposal to develop a new garden at Sector 14, Kharghar, was also sanctioned, while a similar proposal for Sector 7 was deferred.

Several infrastructure projects received unanimous approval. These include the construction of an internal stormwater drainage network in Bhingari village, installation of decorative streetlights outside the new PMC headquarters, and road concreting and drainage work from Kalamboli village’s main entrance to Narayan Jadhav Chawl.

The civic body also approved e-tendering for hiring various vehicles and heavy machinery required for municipal operations.

Some proposals, including the modernisation of a crematorium in the Koliwada Market Yard area and a water supply scheme linked to Dehrang Dam under the World Bank-supported MEWREP programme, were kept pending.

The House further approved proposals for a barrage at Dehrang to enhance water storage, construction of commercial shops and a multi-level parking facility on municipal land, and mechanised fogging and spraying services to strengthen public health measures ahead of the monsoon season.
