Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao conducted a review meeting to assess the ongoing beautification work and proposed infrastructure upgrades at Rayladevi Lake. The meeting, held on Thursday, focused on the progress of the first phase of the project, planning for the upcoming second phase, and addressing key concerns related to safety, cleanliness and public amenities.
The review was conducted after local corporator Namrata Bhosale highlighted various civic issues concerning the lake area. During the meeting, Commissioner Rao instructed officials to prioritise essential works such as the construction of a boundary wall, installation of security measures, improvement of sanitation facilities and ensuring adequate lighting around the lake premises.
Rao directed officials to complete basic protective infrastructure before moving ahead with further internal development works. A major focus was placed on constructing a boundary wall around the lake to secure the open spaces and prevent possible encroachments.
The Commissioner also instructed authorities to increase police patrolling in the area to control anti-social activities and public disturbances. Additionally, deployment of security personnel and installation of protective sheds were discussed to improve safety for visitors.
Emphasising the importance of surveillance, Rao ordered the immediate activation of all installed CCTV cameras to ensure continuous monitoring of the lake precinct. He also directed officials to remove accumulated debris and establish a permanent mechanism for regular cleaning and maintenance.
Issues related to electricity supply and lighting infrastructure were also reviewed. The Commissioner instructed better coordination with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to resolve power-related concerns and ensure proper illumination around the lake.
During discussions on Phase 2 of the beautification project, officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) presented plans for further development of the lake area. The proposed works include slope stabilisation, dedicated parking facilities and a long-term maintenance strategy to ensure sustainable upkeep of the surroundings.
The meeting was attended by Kopri Ward Chairperson Minal Sankhe, corporators Vikas Repale and Namrata Bhosale, TMC City Engineer Prashant Songra, MMRDA Chief Engineer Vinay Surve, Deputy Commissioner Madhukar Bodke and other senior civic officials.
