Connectivity between Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar is set for a major upgrade with the proposed Metro Line 13, a 25.03-km corridor designed to provide a faster public transport link across Vasai Creek.
Approved at an estimated cost of Rs 17,724.99 crore, the project will connect key areas across the Thane and Palghar districts while reducing dependence on congested road routes. The line will comprise 21.78 km of elevated alignment and 3.25 km underground, with 16 stations in total.
4.92-km Integrated Road-Metro Bridge
One of the project’s most significant components is a 4.92-km integrated six-lane road and Metro bridge across Vasai Creek. The structure, connecting Panju Island, is expected to provide a direct connection between Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar.
The bridge could eliminate an existing road detour of nearly 32 km and is expected to reduce road travel time by around 50%. The Metro corridor will pass through major areas including Mira Road, Vasai, Naigaon, Nalasopara and Virar.
Stronger Rail and Multimodal Connectivity
Metro Line 13 is planned to integrate with Mumbai’s suburban railway network through interchange facilities at Naigaon, Nalasopara and Virar stations. It will also connect with Metro Line 9 at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium, expanding opportunities for seamless travel across the region.
Bus connectivity is proposed at Metro stations to improve last-mile access and support multimodal transportation. A Metro depot is planned at Chikhal Dongri.
The corridor is expected to provide a quicker alternative for thousands of daily commuters travelling between the northern suburbs, while potentially encouraging a shift from private vehicles to public transport.
By improving links between Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar, the project is also expected to support emerging growth centres across the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Better public transport connectivity could help reduce road congestion, private vehicle dependency and vehicular emissions.
