Villagers in and surrounding Navi Mumbai will shortly intensify their demonstrations against the city development plan known as the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA). On July 1, they intend to start a hunger strike in front of the Belapur train station’s City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) office.
The villagers have reportedly been protesting the plan for the past two years. Their livelihoods and agricultural fields are impacted by the plan. Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR) implementation has been demanded by protestors, who hope to retain 60% of the land and offer incentives to villages. It is a standard for giving packages to certain people.
