The city’s most ambitious redevelopment project is moving forward, with planners facing the challenge of relocating over 100,000 households from Dharavi’s slum settlements. The Dharavi Redevelopment Project Ltd (DRPPL), a joint venture between the Adani group and the state government, plans to provide free in-situ housing for residents of tenements that existed in Dharavi before 2000.
However, residents of tenements and slums established between 2000 and 2011, and beyond, will need to be relocated. DRPPL has tentative plans to build nearly 150,000 homes for these ‘ineligible’ residents on approximately 1,000 acres of suburban land, referred to as ‘Nav Dharavis’.

Will the people readily go or will the Dharavi redevelopment project get stuck in unnecessary legal tangles?
