The MMRDA has appointed a contractor to build a depot at Dongri near Bhayander for Metro lines 9 and 7A, with a project cost of Rs 701 crore. This decision was made during the MMRDA executive meeting on Wednesday.
Initially, the depot was planned on land spanning Morva, Raimurdhe, and Murdhe villages. However, this site partially lies within residential and no-development zones. Additionally, villagers raised concerns that 547 families would lose their homes. The official emphasized that since the land belongs to the government, MMRDA will not incur any acquisition costs.
