A number of planned bridges that would link Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Kurla, Sion, and Chunabhatti might soon turn the area into a pedestrian-friendly area, according to mid-day.
The Walking Project is the source of the recommendations, which it has provided to the guardian minister of the city as well as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). These suggestions are a part of a larger strategy to deal with problems with pedestrians found in a recent study of the BKC region.
Two new bridges—one from Belgrami Road and the other connecting New Mill Road/SG Barve Road—are part of the concept for Kurla West. With the addition of these bridges and a few foot overbridges (FOBs) further south, it could be possible to walk 1.3 km (about 15 minutes) between Sion and Chunabhatti stations to ONGC. The number of passengers at Kurla station and the adjacent surroundings may decrease as a result of this upgrade.
Reducing reliance on road transport—which is now hindered by traffic congestion—is the goal of the Walking Project’s recommendations. Unlike other complicated urban planning concerns in Kurla West that require more significant political involvement, Mhatre believes these modifications may be completed within a year with minimal political action. The MMRDA and Guardian Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha have received all proposals for their consideration.
