Following protests from Kurla locals regarding the upcoming restrictions on Halav Pul use due to the Metro 2B girder, MMRDA promised to bring up the matter with the airports authority. During a discussion earlier this week with local people, an assurance was provided to investigate the easing of height with airport authorities. The girder height is constrained by the Airport Authority of India’s requirements because the site is within the Mumbai airport’s funnel zone.
He stated, “The MMRDA should make an appeal to the airport authority to increase the girders’ height from the current 3.50 meters to 5.50 meters.” The attitude of authority to make choices without considering the public needs to change, according to Umesh Gaikwad, another local. Following the discussion, municipal officer Jeevan Rathod apprised all MMRDA officials of the demands, and MMRDA officials agreed to take the matter up with higher-ranking officials and communicate with the Airport Authority regarding the potential for raising the height of the Metro 2B girder.
“The maximum height permissible at Halav Bridge is 21.28m (AMSL) as per Airport Authority of India (AAI) standards and the maximum restricted height available above Halav Bridge is 3.5 metres, which is in accordance with Indian Standard code,” the MMRDA stated in a statement they tweeted in response to the complaint. Small vehicles, such as cars, are the primary users of Halav Bridge. After the Metro girder is installed on Halav Bridge, height limits of 3.5 meters will be in effect, according to a statement. It further stated, “It is noteworthy that the U-girders will be constructed following the Ganpati festival.”
