Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray stated on Wednesday that the Mahayuti administration has granted the Adani Group 1,080 acres of land across the city for the Dharavi rehabilitation project, which is double the size of Asia’s largest slum combined. The Worli MLA slammed the state administration, claiming that chief minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have only one policy: “Sabka malik Adani” (Adani governs all).
Addressing a press conference at Matoshree, Aditya Thackeray stated, “The size of Dharavi is around 540 acres. The Adani Group already owned 540 acres of land to conduct the Dharavi redevelopment project. The Mahayuti government then approved the sale of an additional 540 acres of property across Mumbai to the Adani Group in the last few months in the name of rehabilitating inhabitants who are disqualified for Dharavi housing.
In June, the Adani Group-led Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL) asked the state government for 23 land parcels throughout Mumbai to rehabilitate ineligible citizens. According to sources, within a month, the corporation boosted the need for 23 land lots.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader claimed that the additional 540 acres would permit the building of almost 700,000 square feet outside Dharavi, and the Adani Group stands to make around ₹1 lakh crore from it, leaving nothing for Mumbai. “Sai Baba of Shirdi used to say ‘Sabka malik ek’ (one god rules all), but CM Shinde and the BJP say ‘Sabka malik Adani’. If possible, they would hand up the Arabian Sea to Adani.”
Thackeray further alleged that the state government prevented the Mumbai municipal elections from taking place so that the transfer of land to the Adani Group would be unhindered, as elected representatives would never accept it. DRPPL did not reply to calls or texts seeking a response to the charges.
