The Maharashtra government’s planning agency CIDCO announced Monday that the Navi Mumbai Metro, which began operations in November 2023, has received three internationally recognised ISO certifications for quality, environment, and safety requirements.
According to the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), which carried out the project, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha Metro) has obtained the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications in its first year of operation. As per a CIDCO press statement, these certificates demonstrate the metro’s dedication to upholding international standards for environmental responsibility, occupational health and safety, and quality management.
Navi Mumbai Metro has achieved a noteworthy milestone by becoming the only metro line in Maharashtra to obtain all three ISO certifications in its first year of operation. According to the statement, Maha Metro on behalf of the British Standards Institution (BSI) granted the certificates. The certificates were accepted on behalf of CIDCO by Shantanu Goel, Joint Managing Director.
According to a CIDCO representative, “The ISO certifications reaffirm our dedication to providing top-notch metro services while putting quality, sustainability, and safety first. We take great pride in helping Navi Mumbai develop into a sophisticated, contemporary metropolis with state-of-the-art infrastructure. Phase 1 of the Navi Mumbai Metro project, the 11-kilometer Belapur-Pendhar corridor, began service on November 17 of last year. The corridor links the housing complexes of CIDCO in Kharghar, Taloja MIDC, and Belapur CBD.
