Kharghar-Turbhe Tunnel Link To Ease Navi Mumbai Commutes

The INR 2099-crore Kharghar-Turbhe Tunnel Link Road (KTLR) is now under construction. It would ease traffic on the busy Sion-Panvel route by cutting the 40-minute travel time between Turbhe and Kharghar to 10 minutes. According to officials, the project is anticipated to be finished by September 2028 and will improve east-west connectivity within Navi Mumbai and connections between Navi Mumbai and other areas in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

According to a representative of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), the nodal agency in charge of the project, the KTLR, which starts near Jui Nagar railway station, will be advantageous for drivers heading to Navi Mumbai via the Sion-Panvel highway. According to the official, the new route would provide smooth access to Atal Setu and the soon-to-be Navi Mumbai airport, reducing travel time by thirty minutes.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) created the comprehensive project study for the KTLR, which CIDCO assessed. It details building a 3.4-km elevated viaduct and a 1.8-km twin tunnel through Kharghar Hill. Starting at Turbhe, the road will follow the Sion-Panvel highway until it reaches Jui Nagar railway station. It would then go through two one-way tunnels in Kharghar Hill before coming to an end at a 30-meter road close to the Central Park intersection in Kharghar.

In addition, a subway will connect Central Park to the planned international corporate park, and a 1.5-kilometer elevated road will connect Central Park to Taloja’s central jail. When the project is finished, Mumbai residents will have easier access to Kharghar, Taloja, and the nearby industrial zones. Additionally, it will provide direct access to the CIDCO golf course in Navi Mumbai for the inhabitants of Thane and Mumbai.

The letter of award for the project’s design, construction, and commissioning was given earlier this year, and the contract was given to Rithwik Projects Pvt Ltd in October of last year. Officials from CIDCO acknowledged that the project has just started and should be finished in four years. They highlighted the observance of all relevant regulatory procedures.

To sum up, the KTLR project is a major development in Navi Mumbai’s infrastructure that should increase citizens’ connectedness and travel efficiency. When it’s finished, it will not only reduce traffic but also boost the economy by connecting important neighbourhoods, easing Mumbai residents’ daily journeys, and improving access to important places like the new airport.
