The Maharashtra government is developing a concept to create a fourth Mumbai city. To do this, the government is engaged in extensive infrastructure development projects, including the building of airports, coastal highways, rail networks, and ports.
The Maharashtra government is developing Vadhavan as a new Mumbai city. The town, which is in the Palghar District of Maharashtra, is undergoing significant infrastructure development.
The project plan to establish a major port in the city was accepted by the Government of India (GoI) last year. The extensive hinterland area that includes the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, the western portions of Madhya Pradesh, and the states of North India might be served by the new port.
The anticipated overall project cost, including the land acquisition component, for the construction of the Vadhavan port in Dahanu is Rs 76,220 crore. The new port will be constructed as a Greenfield deep draft large port that can handle all weather conditions. Nine 1000-meter-long container terminals, four multipurpose berths (including the coastline berth), four liquid cargo berths, a Ro-Ro berth, and a Coast Guard dock will also be part of the port.
In addition to building 10.14 km of offshore breakwater and container/cargo storage spaces, the project entails the reclamation of 1,448 hectares of sea area. A total of 298 million metric tonnes (MMT) of capacity will be created annually by the project, including about 23.2 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalents) of container handling capacity.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who presided over a high-level meeting on Monday, stated that Vadhavan Port is expected to be a significant undertaking for the federal and state governments, to rank among the top 10 ports in the world.
“From here, the biggest commercial transit system in the nation will function. This area will be traversed by the coastal road and bullet train. According to IANS, he declared, “A fourth Mumbai will be developed here.”
In Vadhavan, the government also intends to build a new airport. Fadnavis underlined throughout the meeting how urgent it is to make a decision on a new airport in Vadhavan in order to realise this ambition. In order to guarantee that the work is finished quickly and effectively, he also gave the order to take the required actions to address any problems impeding advancement.
