Rs 1,100 Crore Elevated Corridor To Ease Traffic On MTHL & Mumbai-Pune Expressway By 2027

With the installation of a Rs 1,100 crore elevated corridor, commuters on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Sealink (MTHL) and Mumbai-Pune Motorway would soon have relief. According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the project is expected to be finished by February 2027.

The two key elevated corridors will connect the Chirle end of MTHL to Gavan Phata and Palaspe Phata to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The initiative, which is already underway, aims to streamline traffic flow at major junctions and enhance connectivity between Atal Setu and the expressway.

Due to construction at Kalamboli Circle, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway’s Panvel exit has been closed for six months as of February 11. All light and heavy trucks heading towards Panvel, Mumbra, and JNPT are impacted by the closure, and traffic restrictions are in effect around the clock to ensure efficient development and lessen congestion.

To manage the disruption, vehicles heading toward Panvel, Goa, and JNPT from the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be rerouted at Konphata (9.6 km) onto NH-48 via Palaspe Circle. Those traveling from Pune to Mumbai toward Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata must continue straight for 1.2 km on the Panvel-Sion Highway, turn right under the Purusharth Petrol Pump flyover, and proceed via Roadpali and NH-48.

According to Tirupati Kakade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Navi Mumbai, the limitations were put in place following the Motor Vehicles Act. He promised that the project would greatly reduce traffic at Kalamboli Circle once it was finished.
