The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was instructed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to use artificial intelligence (AI) technology in drain cleaning operations during a high-level meeting. Along with other suggested projects costing Rs 25,000 crore, the meeting’s main focus was on ongoing infrastructure and facility projects valued at about Rs 1.41 lakh crore. CM Fadnavis gave officials a month to complete the tender work for the suggested projects and underlined the importance of prompt completion of ongoing activities.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Minister of State Madhuri Misal, the Commissioner of Mumbai Municipal Corporation, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department, and other key officials. During the session, the BMC provided a detailed presentation on the current status of various projects.
In addition to reviewing the progress of important bridge constructions like the Gokhale Bridge, Vikhroli Bridge, Karnak Bridge, Sion Bridge, Belasis Bridge, Mahalaxmi Bridge, and the Madh-Versova Bridge, CM Fadnavis also emphasised the importance of river revitalisation efforts, especially for the Dahisar, Poisar, and Oshiwara rivers, as well as the Mithi River Cleanup Project. Among the major directives he issued were the concreting of about 700 km of roads and the completion of major infrastructure projects like the Versova to Bhayander Coastal Road and the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road.
Sewage treatment also featured prominently in the discussions, with instructions given for the development of treatment plants at Versova, Malad, Bhandup, and Ghatkopar, along with the construction of sewage tunnels such as the Versova Sewage Tunnel, the Mithi River Package Sewage Tunnel, and the Priority Sewage Tunnel. CM Fadnavis also reviewed plans for the redevelopment of major hospitals, including KEM, Sion, and Nair hospitals, and the construction of new healthcare facilities.
The construction of parking lots and business districts at Octroi Naka and Mankhurd on the Dahisar Western Motorway, the desalination project, Mithi River Package 5, the Panjrapol Water Purification Project, and the improvement of green areas like Dahisar Garden and the Jijamata Garden Expansion were among the other significant projects that were reviewed. The Mulund Bird Sanctuary, the Central Garden Infrastructure, the Deonar Bioremediation project, and the modernisation of the Deonar Slaughterhouse are other planned improvements. They also talked about the grandiose Gargai Water Supply Project.
CM Fadnavis emphasised the government’s commitment to making sure that these important projects are carried out effectively and finished within the allotted period, with a particular emphasis on infrastructure improvement and urban modernisation.
