The UAE’s National Advisor Bureau Limited has plans to build an underwater high-speed rail link between Dubai and Mumbai that would cut the journey time to just two hours. With anticipated top speeds of 600–1,000 km/h, the train will greatly improve connection between the two cities.
First proposed several years ago, the project has yet to receive major approvals or development updates. If given the green light, the rail link could be operational by 2030, offering a viable alternative to air travel while also facilitating the transport of goods, including crude oil, between India and the UAE.
A video illustrating the possible rail system was posted on YouTube by an account purporting to be from the National Advisor Bureau Limited. According to the video, travellers would take in views of the undersea environment while travelling. However, because of the technological and engineering difficulties involved, it is anticipated that the project will need a billion-dollar expenditure.
The initiative is seen as a step towards strengthening trade relations between India and the UAE, providing a faster and more sustainable transport solution. The high-speed rail could rival air travel by offering a convenient and efficient option for both passengers and cargo.
Although talks are still in progress, approvals and obtaining the required funding will determine the project’s destiny.
