Mumbai has formally begun building a 3,314 crore elevated road that would link Mulund and Ghatkopar. The goal of the project is to reduce chronic traffic and speed up travel times on the Eastern Motorway (EEH). It is anticipated that this large-scale infrastructure project, spearheaded by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), will greatly lessen traffic on one of Mumbai’s busiest arterial routes.
The elevated corridor will run parallel to the EEH, offering a faster and more streamlined route for commuters in the eastern suburbs. Once completed, the project is expected to decongest existing surface roads and improve east-west connectivity.
However, as construction gets underway, traffic disruptions along the EEH are expected. Authorities have already begun planning traffic diversions and are advising motorists to remain alert for updates. The BMC, in coordination with Mumbai Traffic Police, is working to manage vehicular movement with minimal inconvenience to daily commuters.
This elevated road is a component of a broader urban mobility upgrade plan that aims to shorten travel times, reduce vehicle pollution, and improve the efficiency of daily commutes throughout Mumbai’s expanding suburban sprawl.
