Airoli-Ghansoli Bridge & Palm Beach Road Extension To Ease Navi Mumbai Traffic

The Airoli-Ghansoli Bridge and the Palm Beach Road expansion are being built by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) in partnership with the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO). The goal of these infrastructural initiatives is to improve connectivity throughout Navi Mumbai and reduce traffic congestion.

The Airoli-Ghansoli Bridge will span 3.47 kilometres, including a 1.9-kilometre elevated section over mangrove areas to minimise environmental impact. This bridge will provide a direct link between Airoli and Ghansoli, reducing reliance on the congested Thane-Belapur and Palm Beach roads. It will also connect to the Sion-Panvel Expressway, terminating at Varista Junction, thereby improving access to key arterial routes.

The project is estimated to cost Rs 540 crore, with NMMC allocating Rs 372 crore in its 2023–24 budget and CIDCO contributing the remaining funds. Construction commenced in February 2025, and completion is anticipated by September 2026.

When the extended route is finished, travellers heading to important job centres like MIDC and Mindspace IT Park should benefit. Additionally, it will improve access to places like Kalyan, Ambernath, Badlapur, and Murbad through the Airoli-Mulund Bridge and the future Airoli-Katai Road.

A senior NMMC official stated, “This is a transformative project for Navi Mumbai. Beyond easing congestion, it will unlock regional growth and create new opportunities.”
