The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken the initiative for the first time in 2025 by making the itinerary of its yearly pre-monsoon tree trimming event in Mumbai publicly available. Schedule postings will commence on Friday, April 19, and the effort, which aims to ensure public safety and operational efficiency, will begin on Monday, April 21.
The BMC’s garden department has started publishing weekly schedules via the official X (formerly Twitter) handles of all 24 civic wards, as well as in respective ward offices. Each post includes detailed information such as road names and specific trimming locations, covering at least the next four days.
A senior official from the garden department stated, “We aim to keep citizens informed in advance so they can remove their vehicles or any obstructions that might hinder the trimming work. In the past, delays have occurred and vehicles were damaged due to cars being parked beneath trees during the activity. This measure is intended to allow smoother and safer operations across the city.”
Citizens are being urged to move vehicles parked under roadside trees to avoid obstruction and facilitate efficient execution of the trimming. Each ward’s X post includes a reminder:
“Residents are requested to remove the vehicles parked under the roadside trees to ensure safe and smooth execution of tree trimming work.”
Pruning trees is an essential pre-monsoon safety measure to avoid mishaps and damage from weak or hazardous limbs during intense downpours. In order to reduce the possibility of tree collapses during Mumbai’s severe monsoon season, the BMC conducts this operation every year.
