Metro 9 To Cut Commute Time From Mira-Bhayandar To Mumbai Airport, Andheri & Thane

The upcoming Metro Line 9, running between Kashigaon and Dahisar East, promises to offer a smoother and faster commute for residents of Mira-Bhayandar and Thane. With Mumbai’s local trains often bursting at the seams and road traffic worsening during peak hours, this metro line presents a welcome alternative for daily commuters.Metro 9, part of the Mumbai Metro Phase 1 expansion, will provide direct connectivity from Mira-Bhayandar to several major locations across the city.

It will connect to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) via Lines 7 and 7A, to Andheri West through Line 2B, and to Ghatkopar via Lines 7 and 1. Additionally, the line will link with Line 2A at Dahisar East for access to Link Road and is also set to connect with future Lines 10 and 13, extending reach to Thane and Vasai-Virar.On 15 May, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) announced that trial runs had commenced for Thane district’s first metro line.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde flagged off the trial run and oversaw technical inspections.Once operational, Metro 9 is expected to relieve congestion along the Western Express Highway and drastically reduce travel time. Fadnavis commended the MMRDA’s efficiency and shared plans to complete 50 kilometres of metro development this year, followed by 62 kilometres in 2026.

He confirmed that the city’s expansive metro network, initiated in 2015, is on track for completion by the end of 2027.In addition, a bullet train station is planned near Vadhvan in Palghar, with integration efforts underway to align it with Mumbai’s broader transport infrastructure.
