Prashant Thakur Sounds Alarm On Rural Water Crisis, Warns of Protest

Panvel, Navi Mumbai: In response to the worsening water scarcity in rural areas of Panvel taluka, MLA Prashant Thakur convened an urgent meeting on Thursday at the Panvel Panchayat Samiti office. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and the Panchayat Samiti.

MLA Thakur issued a stern warning to the officials, stating that if immediate steps were not taken to restore and regularise the water supply, large-scale public agitation would be launched. He openly criticised the functioning of the MJP, MIDC, and Panchayat Samiti, expressing strong dissatisfaction over their failure to address the growing crisis.“The rural population has been grappling with acute water shortage for weeks.

If timely and effective measures are not implemented, we will have no choice but to take to the streets,” Thakur declared. He further demanded accountability and urged officials to ensure a consistent water supply without any delay.Recognising the gravity of the situation, MLA Thakur also announced plans to hold a meeting with the state’s rural development minister to seek immediate intervention from the higher authorities.

He instructed officials to closely monitor the issue and provide regular updates on the progress made.Senior BJP leader Arun Sheth Bhagat, members of the Panvel Panchayat Samiti, several village sarpanches, and officials from both MJP and MIDC were also present during the discussion.The water crisis has become a pressing issue across several villages in the region, with residents struggling to meet their daily needs. The call for urgent action highlights the need for a sustainable and long-term solution to the rural water woes of Panvel taluka.
