BMC to Demolish ‘Illegal’ Clubhouse in Chembur Housing Society

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will demolish an alleged unauthorised clubhouse in Mysore Co-operative Housing Society (CHS), Chembur East, after the society failed to establish its legality.

The M-West Ward had issued a notice under Section 351 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act in April 2025 over the structure within Mysore Colony. Despite hearings in June 2025 and February 2026, officials said the society could not provide valid approvals.

In its March notice, the BMC rejected a document submitted by the society, stating it was only a general layout plan issued by the Building Proposal department and not proof of authorised construction.

The civic body has now given 15 days for voluntary removal. If the society fails to comply, demolition will be carried out at its risk and cost, with expenses recovered as property tax arrears.

A civic official said the structure is located on land reserved under Development Plan 2034 and reiterated that no valid permissions were submitted. The action, earlier delayed due to a lack of police protection, will proceed once security support is arranged. Some residents have also raised concerns over the clubhouse’s construction without approvals.
