Panvel Civic Body Clears Multi-Crore Projects Across Infrastructure, Health & Environment

The Standing Committee of the Panvel Municipal Corporation has approved a wide range of proposals covering infrastructure, healthcare, public amenities and environmental initiatives, aimed at improving civic services and promoting sustainable urban growth across the city.

The decisions were taken at a special meeting held at the Adya Krantiveer Vasudev Balwant Phadke Natyagruha, chaired by Standing Committee Chairman Baban Mukadam. Senior officials, including Additional Commissioners Ganesh Shete and Maheshkumar Meghmale, were also present.

As part of administrative approvals, the committee granted an 11-month extension for 30 security guards deployed through the Maharashtra Security Corporation on a contractual basis.

Infrastructure push
A significant portion of the approvals focused on infrastructure. The committee cleared plans for a pedestrian bridge, retaining wall and stormwater drainage system near Kopra Lake (Ganesh Talav) in Kharghar. Road resurfacing works in Kharghar and Kamothe were also sanctioned, along with associated works and cost revisions where required. Additional approvals include decorative streetlighting from the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar statue to the Panvel vegetable market, as well as restoration and rejuvenation of wells across municipal limits.

Public amenities and health services
To enhance everyday facilities, the civic body approved installation of multi-gym stations at 10 locations, construction of prefabricated public toilets, and regular cleaning of bus shelters. Procurement of medicines and materials for veterinary care was also cleared. In healthcare, the committee approved the establishment of Urban Health and Wellness Centres through portacabins, while the fire department will receive PPE kits for all personnel.

Facilities, environment and other works
The committee sanctioned a two-year contract for maintaining and upgrading the air-conditioning system at the Phadke Natyagruha, along with procurement of computer equipment for three years. Environmental initiatives include Miyawaki plantations under the “Majhi Vasundhara” programme in Pisarve and Owe, with approval to plant an additional 8,890 trees in reserved forest areas.

Further approvals covered decorative lighting for public spaces during festivals and key events, as well as road concreting and stormwater drainage projects in multiple locations, including Sector 12 in Kharghar, Bhingari–Nandgaon Road and Takka.

Overall, the meeting cleared a broad set of projects designed to strengthen infrastructure, improve public services and support environmentally sustainable development in Panvel.
