The proposed 3.55-km, four-lane connector aims to improve access between Bandra West and the Versova-Bandra Sea Link, easing congestion on narrow roads leading to Pali Hill.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) plans to appoint a separate contractor for the proposed Pali Hill connector to the Versova-Bandra Sea Link after obtaining Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) approvals.
The 3.55-km connector is estimated to cost Rs 1,722.40 crore and is intended to improve connectivity between the sea link and Bandra West, particularly Pali Hill, where narrow approach roads and heavy traffic often cause congestion. Anil Kumar Gaikwad, chief officer of MSRDC, said the project would be taken up separately after the necessary clearances are secured.
Four-Lane Connector To Ease Traffic
The Maharashtra government has granted administrative approval for the project, which will provide an additional access point to the sea link near Bandra Fort, opposite Hotel Taj Lands End.
The connector will have four lanes, with two lanes in each direction. Its total length of 3.55 km will include the main carriageway, ramps and loops. The main carriageway will be 1.269 km long, while the design includes a 175-metre loop and ramps ranging from 214 metres to 365 metres.
Rs 1,722.40 Crore Project
According to a government resolution dated July 28, the project is estimated to cost Rs 1,722.40 crore. Of this, Rs 1,183.79 crore is allocated for civil construction, with the remaining amount covering other provisions and GST.
MSRDC submitted the proposal to the Public Works Department on August 19, 2024, following demands for improved traffic movement around Bandra Fort and the sea link.
Current Travel Time
Motorists currently take around 20 to 30 minutes to cover the 2.6-km stretch between the sea link toll plaza and Pali Hill. The approach roads are largely limited to one lane in each direction, contributing to congestion.
The proposed connector is expected to offer an alternative route for motorists travelling towards Pali Hill and reduce pressure on existing roads in Bandra West.
