Dcember 16, 2025: Rail connectivity to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to improve significantly with the strengthening of suburban services on the Belapur/Nerul–Uran corridor. Railway authorities have announced the introduction of additional train services and the commissioning of new stations, aimed at meeting the rising demand for commuters in Navi Mumbai.
From Monday, five new pairs of suburban trains will begin operating on the Uran line. With these additions, the total number of daily services on the corridor will increase from 40 to 50, offering greater frequency and flexibility for regular passengers. Officials said the enhanced schedule is designed to ease congestion and improve reliability, especially during peak travel hours.
In another major development, two new stations—Targhar and Gavan—will be commissioned on the Uran line. These stations are expected to improve access for commuters from rapidly developing residential and industrial pockets along the corridor, while also supporting the region’s expanding economic activity.
The upgraded rail services are expected to play a key role in supporting airport-bound passengers and employees once the Navi Mumbai International Airport becomes operational. By strengthening suburban rail connectivity, the railways aim to provide a faster and more efficient alternative to road-based travel, reducing traffic pressure along the Uran corridor.
Officials said the move will also enhance last-mile connectivity and encourage greater use of public transport, aligning with broader urban mobility goals for Navi Mumbai. As the city continues to grow as a residential, commercial and logistics hub, demand for dependable suburban rail services has risen steadily.
The expansion of services reflects a coordinated effort to integrate suburban rail infrastructure with major upcoming projects, including the international airport and nearby business districts. Improved frequency is also expected to reduce overcrowding, making daily commutes more comfortable for thousands of passengers.
Railway authorities confirmed that the revised timetable, along with the newly commissioned stations, will come into effect from Monday. The strengthened Uran line is expected to become a vital mobility link, supporting Navi Mumbai’s rapid urbanisation and future-ready transport network.
