January 15, 2026: Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has rolled out a comprehensive, multi-layer digital connectivity framework aimed at ensuring uninterrupted internet access for passengers, airline personnel, cab drivers and other airport users. The airport operator said the strategy combines infrastructure enhancements, operational planning and on-ground support to address connectivity needs across terminal spaces.
To help travellers connect easily, WiFi login instructions are prominently displayed on flight information screens and other digital signages throughout the terminal. In addition, physical standees with clear, step-by-step guidance have been installed at key touchpoints, including arrival halls, departure zones and circulation areas. Passengers who face difficulty accessing the network can also obtain one-time password (OTP) tokens from designated kiosks after presenting valid identification, in line with government regulations.
NMIA has also deployed trained wardens in easily identifiable yellow uniforms at high-footfall locations such as baggage reclaim areas, arrival forecourts and taxi pick-up points. These staff members assist passengers as well as app-based cab drivers who may encounter temporary connectivity issues. The airport has further strengthened awareness efforts by circulating instructional videos on internet access among drivers, travellers and airport staff.
Coordination with radio taxi operators and app-based aggregators forms another pillar of the plan. A first-in, first-out vehicle allocation system has been introduced to ensure that passengers can access cabs smoothly even during short connectivity disruptions.
The rollout comes against the backdrop of earlier concerns raised by telecom operators regarding Right of Way (RoW) permissions and infrastructure charges at the airport. The Cellular Operators Association of India had sought intervention from the Department of Telecommunications, citing alleged constraints. NMIA, however, rejected these claims, stating it would not permit cartelisation and proposed charging telecom providers rates aligned with those applicable at Mumbai International Airport Ltd.
The Adani Group–CIDCO-led greenfield airport began commercial operations late last month. Airport officials say the digital connectivity plan underlines NMIA’s focus on integrating technology into operations from the outset, positioning reliable internet access as a core element of passenger convenience and airport efficiency.
