NMMC Commissioner Seeks Explanations From Officials After Airoli Infrastructure Review

January 24, 2026: The Municipal Commissioner of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), Dr Kailas Shinde, has issued show-cause notices to three civic officials following deficiencies observed during an inspection of infrastructure and construction works in the Airoli division.

The notices were served on Airoli Division Officer Nainesh Badle, Executive Engineer Sanjay Patil and Deputy Engineer Bandhu Shirose. They have been asked to explain why disciplinary action, including suspension, should not be initiated against them for lapses noted during the inspection.

During his visit on Friday, the Commissioner reviewed a range of public facilities and ongoing projects in Airoli. These included the Airoli Theatre, the Airoli–Ghansoli Bridge, the Central Library, the Science Park, several private construction sites, and road development works. Civic officials said shortcomings were identified in certain works, prompting the administration to seek accountability from the concerned officers.

In a separate action during the same inspection, Dr Shinde ordered an immediate stoppage of construction at a site in Sector 20-C, Airoli. The project was found to violate air and noise pollution norms. A notice was issued to the developer, M/s Jalaram Enterprises, stating that work would be allowed to resume only after compliance with environmental standards and a subsequent inspection.

“No negligence in civic works or violations of environmental norms will be tolerated. Officials will be held accountable for lapses in their respective responsibilities,” Dr Shinde said.

To strengthen monitoring and ensure compliance with quality and environmental requirements, the NMMC has formed special inspection teams. These teams will include Additional Municipal Commissioners, the City Engineer, and the Assistant Director of Town Planning, and will conduct regular on-site checks of construction, development, and infrastructure projects across the city.

An NMMC spokesperson said the Municipal Commissioner will also personally inspect key projects related to roads, sanitation, and construction. Further action will depend on the findings of these inspections and the responses submitted by the officials and developers who have been issued notices.
