CM Fadnavis Distributes Keys To 864 Homes Under BDD Chawl Redevelopment In Naigaon

Devendra Fadnavis on Monday handed over keys to 864 newly built homes in Naigaon as part of the BDD Chawl Redevelopment Project, marking a key milestone in one of Mumbai’s long-delayed housing initiatives.

The distribution ceremony was organised by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority, which is overseeing the rehabilitation of residents displaced under the project. The flats are located within the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar BDD Complex, where former chawl occupants are being shifted to modern residential buildings, according to an official statement.

The event was attended by several senior leaders, including Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe, Housing Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, local MLA Kalidas Kolambkar, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, and Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde. Leaders addressed residents, underlining the progress made in the redevelopment effort.

Speaking at the function, Fadnavis noted that the BDD Chawl redevelopment had remained stalled for nearly four decades. He added that the state government chose to take charge of the project through MHADA instead of depending solely on private developers, ensuring a more structured and planned execution.

The redevelopment of BDD chawls is among Mumbai’s most significant housing transformation projects, aimed at improving living conditions for thousands of residents while replacing ageing structures with modern housing.
