Mumbai Metro Tickets Go Live On Rapido App Via ONDC Integration

Commuters in Mumbai can now book metro tickets directly through the Rapido app, following a new integration enabled by the Open Network for Digital Commerce. The feature allows passengers to purchase QR-based tickets for Metro Lines 2A, 2B, 7, and 9, offering a smoother and more digital travel experience.

According to Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited, the move is aimed at reducing dependence on physical ticket counters and enabling a fully cashless system. Commuters can now simply open the app, book their ticket, and access metro services without waiting in queues or interacting at ticket windows.

To encourage adoption, introductory offers have been rolled out. New users can avail of a free first metro ride (up to Rs 50), while existing users are eligible for a 50% discount (up to Rs 10) on their first booking through the platform.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority to enhance digital public infrastructure and streamline urban mobility. After launching the Mumbai One App as a unified mobility platform, metro ticketing was integrated with ONDC in December, expanding its availability across multiple digital services.

At present, Maha Mumbai Metro tickets are accessible on over 16 platforms, including Uber, WhatsApp, ixigo, and RedBus, with plans to onboard more apps in the coming months.

In a post on X, MMMOCL said the initiative supports the vision of Digital India by offering commuters greater flexibility, improved accessibility, and an integrated travel ecosystem.

Separately, the Government of Maharashtra has approved major infrastructure investments, including funding for Mumbai Metro Line 5A, alongside projects in Vidarbha and preparations for the 2027 Nashik Kumbh Mela.
