As commercial developments increasingly prioritise sustainability, energy efficiency and occupant comfort, façade systems are emerging as a critical element of modern building design. Rather than serving only as an exterior finish, high-performance façades are now being engineered to improve structural performance, maximise natural light and withstand challenging environmental conditions.
A recent example of this trend is Sunteck Pinnacle, a mixed-use development in Mumbai, where Alumil India has supplied advanced aluminium façade systems that combine architectural design with engineering performance.
Spanning nearly 2 lakh sq ft, the project, designed by SSA Architects, integrates retail spaces on the lower floors with office spaces above, reflecting the growing preference for mixed-use developments that bring workspaces, shopping and other amenities together within a single destination.
Alumil India participated in the project from the design development stage through execution, delivering a unitised curtain wall façade featuring slim 140 mm mullions that offer a sleek appearance without compromising structural strength.
One of the project’s notable engineering achievements is the incorporation of dual-sash outward-opening side-hung windows within the curtain wall system while complying with stringent fire safety standards, a feature requiring precise design coordination and execution.
Sharing his experience on the project, Ar. Sandeep Shikre, Founding Principal & CEO, SSA Architects, said, “A façade is challenging, especially when different metals come together and complement each other. That requires precision and immaculate attention. In the end, as a designer, the delight is a must; as an engineer, the satisfaction is a must. Alumil delivered on both.”
The façade incorporates EPDM gaskets and a triple-barrier sealing system to enhance resistance against water infiltration, air leakage, noise and high wind loads—features particularly suited to Mumbai’s coastal climate.
Commenting on the project, Theodoros Axouristos, Managing Director, Alumil India, said, “Sunteck Pinnacle is a testament to how seamless collaboration between architecture and engineering can create a structure that is both visually striking and functionally robust. Our precision-engineered façade solutions were tailored to meet the project’s exacting design and performance requirements. This project further strengthens Alumil India’s position as a trusted partner for complex, design-led developments across the country.”
The project reflects the growing adoption of advanced façade technologies that enhance building performance, improve energy efficiency and support the evolving demands of India’s commercial real estate sector.
