BMC to install network of CCTV cameras on Mumbai Coastal Road

A day after the Mumbai Coastal Road opened for traffic, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced they will install 100 Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) to secure the high-speed corridor, before the second stretch is opened for operation. Civic officials said that at present only the two-km long undersea tunnels are equipped with CCTV cameras.

The officials said that cameras have not been installed everywhere since civil works are still ongoing as the northbound stretch of this road is yet to be opened. “Since the tunnels go underground and there’s no overhead opening, we had to install cameras there on priority so that we can monitor if there has been any accident or mishap underground. Meanwhile, on the main road, no cameras have been installed yet,” said the official.
