Railway channels to be unclogged before monsoon, BMC takes charge

Before monsoon begins, BMC Storm Water Department staff will inspect and certify all railway channels beneath railroad tracks by 5 June, 2024. The BMC officials would be held accountable if a blocked drain on railway property causes flooding in the vicinity.

The authorities of the Railways and the BMC trade accusations after every significant downpour and flooding. The BMC pays Western and Central Railway to clean the local drains each year, but they get the blame when the city floods.
