The opposition blames the government of election ploy before of the Vidhan Sabha polls for the delayed opening of the Mumbai Coastal Road

The much-discussed and much anticipated Mumbai Coastal Road Project has faced yet another delay as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has revealed an updated schedule for the road’s full opening. Travellers will have to wait until October 2024 to complete the journey from Marine Drive to Worli, even though a section of the northbound lane is expected to open by June 10.

The project, which was initially supposed to be finished in 2022, has been beset by disputes and setbacks; the most recent news has only made matters worse for Mumbai residents who have been anxiously awaiting the road’s unveiling. Following the Chief Minister’s announcement that a second lane will be opened by June 10, there were initially hopes that Phase 2 of the project would be completed and operational in ten days. BMC representatives have subsequently made it clear that, come next month, traffic will only be allowed on the portion of the tunnel that runs from Marine Drive to Haji Ali.
