On May 30, 2024, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) published a list of the city’s 527 most unsafe buildings. Section 264 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act declares these to be harmful.
They were found during the municipal body’s inspection program for 2024–2025 in an effort to stop any negative incidents from happening during the monsoon season. Sixty-two of the 527 buildings are classified as extremely unsafe (C1), meaning they should not be used for residential or commercial purposes. The municipal body states that these ought to be removed right away and destroyed.
